Overview
Kit — known as ConvertKit until 2024 — is an email marketing platform aimed at creators: newsletter writers, course sellers and solo operators rather than e-commerce teams. Its model is subscriber-centric: one person is one subscriber no matter how many tags or sequences they sit in, so you never pay twice for the same reader. The free Newsletter plan runs up to 1,000 subscribers with unlimited sends, landing pages and one basic automation. Creator ($33/mo, or $390 billed yearly at 1,000 subscribers) unlocks the full visual automation builder, unlimited sequences and integrations. Pro ($66/mo, or $790 billed yearly) adds advanced reporting, subscriber scoring, a newsletter referral system and priority support. Paid plans include a 14-day trial and yearly billing saves about 17%. Kit also sells digital products and paid subscriptions directly, so a newsletter can become a paid product without a second tool. Pricing scales with list size; the figures above are the 1,000-subscriber tier as published on kit.com/pricing on 22 August 2026.
✓ Pros
- Free plan is genuinely usable — 1,000 subscribers with unlimited sends
- Subscriber-based pricing: no double-charging for people on multiple lists
- Sells digital products and paid newsletters natively — no separate checkout tool
- Visual automation builder is easy to reason about
- Deliverability is consistently strong for creator-type sending
- Affiliate program pays 50% for the first 12 months, then 10–20% recurring
✗ Cons
- Email templates are deliberately plain — no drag-and-drop design system
- No built-in webinars, CRM or landing-page depth of an all-in-one suite
- Free plan caps you at one automation
- Price climbs steeply once your list passes a few thousand subscribers
- Reporting is thinner than ActiveCampaign or GetResponse
